As we all know Team Play is on Tuesday July 28, not July 30. I'm going to blame the error on a long week!
Thanks, Linda, for organizing the apps on the balcony following the first round of Club C. They were delish!!

Upcoming Events
Now that the GAO Junior Championship is done, we are back to our "regularly scheduled programming".
Tuesday, July 28 is the last day of round-robin Team Play. Playoffs will start Aug 11. Don't let your team down!
The sign up sheet for the Bulger Trophy is on the bulletin board and will be held either Sunday, Aug 2 or Tuesday, Aug 4. It is a Chapman alternate shot. Each player drives and then hits her partner's ball and then alternate shots until the ball is holed. Get a partner and put your names on the list. If you don't have a partner sign up anyway and the games committee will find you a partner.
The Member-Guest, postponed from June will be on Sunday, Aug 9. It is going to be a "blingy" event. Yvonne and her committee have done a great job putting it all together and are hoping for great weather that day! There is still room to sign up.
Watch for details to be posted soon for the Devil's Tournament on Tuesday, Aug 25. Save the date!
Pan Am results: Andrew Yorke finished 7th, only 33 seconds behind the winner in a race that took almost 2 hours! Congratulations on a fantastic effort! Rachel Honderich won a silver medal losing to her doubles partner, Michelle Li, who took the gold in the final. She won all of her matches 2-0 up to that point. Wonderful results!

Dalewood's connections to the Pan Am Games
One grandmother will be in Toronto watching one event in the Pan Am Games with particular interest and pride. Gerry Yorke's grandson, Andrew Yorke, will be competing for Canada this Sunday morning at 8:30 in the Triathalon. Unfortunately, there will be no TV coverage. Gerry is very hopeful for a podium result!!
As well, Rachel Honderich, who is the late Jane Bulger's granddaughter, will be competing in both singles and doubles in Badminton. Her first competition is Saturday evening. For some of our long-time members, Rachel's mother is Terri Bulger, who was a junior member at Dalewood.
Best of luck to both Rachel and Andrew!

Greta Philips
The Greta Philips Trophy will be played this Sunday, July 12 or on Tuesday, July 14. This is a partner better-ball competition. You play your own ball and take your handicap strokes off for each hole. The lower score of the two partners is used on each hole for the 18 hole team total. Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board.
Club Championship will be July 25 and 25, with the skills challenge being held on Friday evening (the 24th) starting around 5pm.
Team Play will resume on July 28.
Two items have been posted on the For Sale page. Follow the link at the bottom of this email to the For Sale Page.

A match worth noting!!
Last Friday, one of our doubles match was played and went EXTRA long. It was between Diane Moffat and Lynda Rennick versus Dale Hodge and Bridget Smith. It was back and forth for 18 holes with no clear advantage being taken. It was tied after 18 and unfortunately Bridget had a prior commitment (9 holes of golf elsewhere!), so Dale soldiered on 2 against 1. Unbelievably, she took her opponents to the 9th hole. Yes, that's a 27-hole match before a winner was determined! We've had 6 extra holes several times, but I do not recall a match having to go to #9. When did you last play 27 holes? And Diane and Dale walked all 27! Congrats to Diane and Lynda for winning, and Dale and Bridget for putting forth a battle!
Here are their three great shots into the 26th hole (#8) - no sloppy golf here!

Matches update and a For Sale page
MATCH PLAY: Most matches have been played on time - good work! (Don't forget to put your score in as a tournament score.) The matches on the blog have been updated (under the Pages section). The date of the next round is July 18. Don't leave your next match until the last minute because there is really no golf at Dalewood for members from July 20 to 24. Dalewood is hosting the GAO Junior Boys Championship that week. Friday (24th 5 pm) will be the skills challenge and Saturday (25th) and Sunday (26th) will be the Club Championship. By the way, Jamie is looking for volunteers to help during that week. Nothing reflects better on a club than having lots of volunteers out spotting balls - and you'll see some fantastic golf.
FOR SALE PAGE: At Linda's suggestion, I have added a For Sale page on the blog to the right of the main postings. If you have an item that you would like to offer to other members email the details to me. You need to include an accurate description (a picture could be included) and the price. If it sells let me ASAP, so I can remove it. Golf and non-golf related items may be advertised.

The things you see on a golf course!
Last weekend the adult Canada geese were teaching their offspring how to run on the water and flap their wings in preparation for learning to fly. While the noise was distracting, it's good to know they will be leaving the premises soon and taking their "you know what" with them! They were pretty cute trying to copy their parents!
On Tuesday, thanks to an errant drive from one of our group, we spotted a large turtle near a tree by the pond on #15. We weren't too sure what it was doing there, but it tried to be very still so we would go away!
A reminder for you that Team Play resumes next Tuesday, June 30, and it's RED and WHITE day! Wear your colours and plant your Canadian flag! (Instructions and flags provided.)

Match Play Info from Tracey
Match Play Update:
It is wonderful to see so many participants in the match play games
this year and thank you to all who have already played their first round
of competition. Due to such a plentiful playing field, the time frame to get
games in, and the fact that playing time has been limited with the number of
outside tournaments we have had in these last two weeks, the ‘play by' dates
have been moved as follows: Mickey Aryes Putting matches from June 20 to June
27, Huffman 9-hole Match Play from June 20 to June 27, and the Doris Mitchell
Better Ball Match Play from June 27 to July 4th.
Reminders:
- Players may NOT practise on the putting green prior to a putting
match on that day.
- Sign, date and attest all cards after matches and hand them in to
the pro shop
- Please contact Tracey at 905-885-0040 or traceyperkin@live.ca with questions or for extensions.
- Check out the Pages section in our blog ‘Match Play Rules, Etiquette,
and Hints’ for some great info.
Congratulations to those who have advanced so far and best of luck
to all.

Upcoming Events
On this coming Tuesday, June 9, there is a tournament for Northumberland Food Bank, so women's golf will be on Wednesday, June 10. Tracey is looking for volunteers to spot on a hole if you're not playing in the tournament.
The good news is we don't even need Wednesday as a make up day for a Team Play rain-out! Let's keep our fingers and toes crossed for continued good weather. Team Play resumes on June 30.
Match Play draws will be posted this weekend (and are already on the blog under Pages), so find out when you play and get some possible dates to play your match. Don't leave it until the last minute! We had a great turnout for match play, but that means we have a short amount of time to get all the rounds in. There are only 2 weeks to get the first one done. Extensions (for emergency reasons) may be requested from Tracey Perkin (905-885-0040), but keep in mind you are making the next round shorter if you delay the current round.
The Mary Buckley Eclectic is two rounds of golf where you count the best score on each hole over two different days. Round 1 may be played on either Sunday, June 14 or Tuesday, June 16 and round 2 may be played on either Sunday, June 21 or Tuesday, June 23.
The Member/Guest is Sunday, June 28. The poster and sign-up sheet are on the board downstairs.
