June Newsletter

 From Ariane Macdonald:

DALEWOOD WOMEN’S SECTION

WELCOME BACK, AGAIN!

The course is open, the tee sheet is filled, and the weather is perfect! It was great to see so many of the Women’s Section out and playing during the Long Weekend.

Lynn Attley has sent an email regarding the Tuesday League. The sign-up routine will be as it was last year. Open the attachment, add your name and preferred time to play and close the browser. Your information will automatically be added. The Tuesday sign-up email will go out on Monday and the deadline for sign up will be Friday at noon. Any changes after Friday need to be made through the pro-shop, not through Lynn. After Sunday, any openings will be made available to women, non-members wishing to play with us. Please let Lynn know if you are not receiving her emails (lynn.attley@gmail.com).

Those who have signed up for Match Play should have received an email from Dale Hodge. Please ensure you adhere to the dates and match play rules. The blog has everything you need to know about Match Play and its etiquette. Dale has put copies of the Match Play on the bathroom bulletin board. The matches are also posted on the blog and will be kept up-to-date.

Sandy Young has emailed us regarding Saturday Skins. Cut off time is Wednesday at 3 pm. Please let Sandy know if you are interested in playing Skins and not receiving her emails (Sandy.young@hki.com).

Please find attached an updated calendar just in case you have misplaced the first one!

When playing on Tuesdays, and to help speed of play, please do the following:

  • If you go into the creek twice in a row, pick up your ball and continue on the other side. Most likely you will have reached your max before you get to the green.

  • If you have reached your max, please pick-up. Max is 2 over par plus strokes you get for that hole, based on your handicap. (Also known as Net Double Bogey).

  • If you hit your drive about 100 – 125 yards, it is recommended that you play from the orange tees. Dalewood is a long course, you don’t have to make it harder for yourself.

We will continue to celebrate key milestones. Details will be forthcoming in the blog. Please email your achievement to Anne Parks (anneparks48@gmail.com) with a photo if appropriate. The blog will be used as the celebratory vehicle.

Also, please remember to follow all the covid-19 protocols. We are all hoping that Ontario can proceed to the 3 phase reopening plan announced recently.

Have fun golfing!

Thursday 27 May 2021

Greetings from your Games Captain,

I had, with enthusiasm, scheduled the Ponting Tournament for Tuesday, June 15. But given the very late start to the golf season, the fact that there is no chance to gather after the event and that things still seem to be in a state of flux, I am suggesting that we postpone it to later in the year. Joan Hayward who is the convenor agreed as did the DWS committee.

Although this may be a blight on my quest to be the Games Captain of 2021 with no games under her belt, the season is still young!

Keep your head down and keep swinging. 😎

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hallelujah! We are finally back on the course!!
Unfortunately, we are still under COVID restrictions, and cannot gather at the 19th hole. πŸΊπŸ·πŸ”πŸŒπŸ₯—
Soooooo . . . we thought it would be fun to resurrect our DC (During COVID) Golf Tales Take 2! This will allow us to share our joys and laughter among our group while we can’t do so in person!
To refresh your memory, we will summarize your best, your hilarious and your 'you won’t believe this 😳' golf stories at the end of each month. This means you must get your stories and/or pics to us so we have lots to share and keep us in touch in a light, fun-filled manner!
We had a lot of fun with this last year and would really like to keep it going so don’t forget to get your stories to Barb or she will hunt you down, and you know she ain’t kidding πŸ•΅️‍♀️
We hope you enjoy your time on the course, and wish you many good scores, and many happy moments, which then must be shared with your golf friends!!
See you on the course 🏌️‍♀️
 Only two days into our restart and we have our first hole-in-one.
Congratulations to Patty McDonald on her first hole-in-one on #4!!!
According to Lynn Attley "It was a perfect shot in line with the pin, landed on the green and directly to the hole...no luck required.
OPENING FIELD DAY
MAY 30, 2021
From Anne Parks:
Well, ladies, I am sorry to announce that once again we have had to cancel our Opening Field Day scheduled for May 30. Given that 25% of our season will have passed by the first week of June, it seems a tad silly to consider re-scheduling.
At the rate we are going, your Games Captain will go down in history as the one who cancelled the most women's events. Surely there is an achievement pin for that!!
From Sandi MacDonald:
Most of the work on bridge is completed on #15.
Friday 7 May 2021
CAN'T WAIT
 The fairways look to be in fantastic shape. They are working on the electrical wiring under the bridge on #15 so watering can start.
