Merry Christmas and some photos

Merry Christmas everyone!
A few of us got together for the Christmas Buffet and it was terrific.  Great seeing everyone and looking forward to the spring, especially after the last few days.  With no power for three days, it's amazing what we take for granted.  Even after 65 hours, I still switched on a light when I entered a dark room!!  However, everything is back to normal here and I hope for all of you as well.  Enjoy the Christmas holiday with family and friends.

They got a little surprise snowfall out west and our Dave sent some shots to Jamie.  Who knew they made Loudmouth clothes for snowmen?

Dalewood on Dec 24 - the ice was actually sparkling in the trees!

Oops - the 13th is fully booked

As we found out by email today, the buffet lunch on Dec 13 is full.  Good for Dalewood; not so good for us.  I will make reservations for Friday Dec 20 for 11:30 on Wednesday.  Anyone who would like to join us for lunch that day, let me know by Nov 29, so I can update the reservations.

An addition to Dalewood AND Lunch

There will be a new feature on the 18th hole in the rough when you return in the spring.  An English Oak has been planted in Mary Buckley's memory.  A dedication ceremony will take place in the spring or early summer.  (See below the picture for lunch info.)

Anyone interested in enjoying Chef Jen's Christmas buffet on Dec 13 at noon, please let me know and I will make reservations. Email me at jbeaith@sympatico.ca if you'd like to do lunch!  You know it will be delicious!

Closing Field Day

Earlier in the year, we were asked to move our Closing Field From Saturday, Sept 21 to Sunday Sept 29 so Dalewood could host an outside tournament.  Boy was that ever a good change!!  On the 21st it rained pretty much all day, but we were greeted on the 29th with glorious sun and warm temperatures.
Tyler had the course in great shape, and Chef Jennifer provided a scrumptious turkey dinner.  Janet Hull added to the autumn look with some great decorations.  Here are the results of the day's play.  Look later in the week for the Annual Trophies and Awards which were presented, and some pictures.  Below the results is the 2014 executive.

Last official Tuesday

Tuesday Sept 24 was the last official Tuesday, but play will continue as long as the weather is cooperative.  Chef Jen will be available if we have 8-10 players.  Sign up through the "tee reservation", (starting around 1:30 for 18 or 3:30 for 9) so we can let her know how many will be out.
Thanks to Dale for all her hard work throughout the season!

The Closers!

Looks like we had a good time!

Heart and Stroke Tourney

In support of our friend Tracey, the four of us entered the Heart and Stroke women only scramble tournament at Heron Landing GC in Peterborough on Friday, September 13.  In spite of very fall-like (some might say winter-like) weather, we had a great time with the winning score of -4.  The organizers hope it becomes an annual event and they are hoping to build on their success all in an effort to raise money for Heart and Stroke and to raise awareness for heart disease and women. Maybe we can get another team or two from Dalewood next year.  The course is short (par 4's and 3's only) and very walkable.

"Bring a friend Tuesday" - Sept. 10

On perhaps the hottest day in September that most can remember, Dalewood women hosted some friends on a recent Tuesday afternoonAs you can see by the red faces, we survived the heat to enjoy the dinner afterwards and the camaraderie.  The drinks on the table had nothing to do with it!!
Thanks to Dale, Yvonne and Patty for organizing!

Susan Clayton and Catherine Watson

If anyone wants the picture sent to them, just let me know.

Ready to try something new and different?

DALEWOOD WOMEN’S TEAM PLAY

THE CONCEPT:           Imagine if you will that you are a member of a TEAM with other women from this club.  Your team will play a “virtual 9-hole match” (on computer) against another team on some Tuesdays throughout the summer, earning points for low net scores.  If you show up your team will earn points.  If you have a good net score, you will score points for your team.  (Your team will have a captain and a name, of course – maybe even a colour!)  All the scoring is done by computer in the pro shop after 9 holes.  You will be able to check the results online any time after completion of play on Tuesday.  Team results will also be posted on the bulletin board.  There will be a playoff system for the last 3 weeks of the season and prizes will be awarded for the top teams, the low net player for the season, the best attendance, most valuable player to her team, etc.

WHO:              Anyone who is a female Dalewood member (with a handicap) may play on a team.  You don’t have to be a member of the “section”, or play in the regular Tuesday game.  Team members can play with whomever they want at any time of the day on Tuesday.  You should be committed to try to make most of the 8 or 9 rounds that will be designated for TEAM PLAY, so you don’t let your team down.

HOW:              All of this can be done without disrupting our usual Tuesday schedule.  We will keep doing Tuesdays the way we successfully have been, putting in our toonies with prizes being awarded for closest to the pins, low nets, low putts, and whatever games the Tuesday committee comes up with.  Remember, it is a “virtual match” (on computer), so you don’t play as a team or against anyone.  If you’re having a bad game, your score likely won’t count anyway.

WHY:               It has been used at several clubs within the women’s sections and it is by far the most popular thing the women do.  Where some clubs get 25% participation in match play, they get 70% participation in Team Play.  It creates great camaraderie, fun, and interest within the group.  Just ask Dalewood’s men – it has doubled the number of men out on Thursday.

COST:              There will be a cost of $20 / person to participate in TEAM PLAY for the season.  About $4.00 of that money goes to the website to administer the program.  The rest of the money will be returned to the players in the way of prizes at the end of the season.

HOW MANY:  Ideally, we could have all of our women members sign up and be put on a team.  Realistically, it would be terrific if 40 - 50 were to decide to join.  It could be done with 32, but fewer than that would make it difficult.

We will be having a discussion at Closing Field Day about it, so bring any questions you have.  Let’s try to make TEAM PLAY a success!!

Jewell in the rough

Whenever you think you are having a bad day on the golf course, try to picture this video.  It will undoubtedly give you a chuckleJewell Malick was playing in the Texas Amateur Match Play in 2012 when her ball went down into a gully.  She obviously has a "never give up" attitude.  By the way, she also played in the Canadian Senior this past week.  I haven't heard that she had any similar disasters in BC.  The great thing is someone actually caught this on video.  Turn on your speakers.

News and Notes

 NEWS AND NOTES:

An informal "bring a friend day" is planned for September 10.  Tee times will start at 1:30 pm, with dinner from the menu to follow.  Guest fees will be reduced to $25 for 18 holes and $15 for 9 holes.   The usual twoonie per person will be collected for prizes. Whether you bring a guest or not, play is open to all.

Tuesday Play has been extended until the end of September with the kitchen prepared to serve us dinner after we golf.

The Closing Field Day is Sunday, September 29.  A shotgun at noon is planned.  It's always fun, so mark it on your calendar.  Prizes for the day and for the season are given out.  Our Annual General Meeting takes place after golf as well.

Synchronized Putting

Several determined women volunteered to try the Synchronized Putting challenge on Tuesday afternoon.  A successful attempt was made with 4 putters, and many attempts were made with 6 and 7, but it was decided that 5 was the number we would strive for.  After 45 minutes and a well worn path made on the putting green, WE DID IT!!!  Thanks to Tyler for his cooperation and to Jamie for some alignment assistance.  Thanks to all who wanted to try it!  It was a great fun.  Even the videographer got pretty excited!!

District Championship Results

Dalewood hosted the Peterborough District Championship on Aug 12.  Several of our men and women participated.  It's a great tournament - more people should consider it for next year. Here are the results from our section:

 1st place C Flight - Claudia vanderMeulen - 95

2nd place C Flight - Annabel Thorpe - 95 (retro)

3rd Place C Flight - Eleni Ponting - 98
