2025 DWS FALL MEETING
SEPTEMBER 23,2025
1. Sue Morrow opened the meeting and and thanked everyone for a successful season.
Sue is a member of the Greens Committee and provided an update. There is a major project to rebuild a number of the tees. Work will begin after October 6th. Tees will be enlarged, levelled with new sod to finish the tee blocks. Some new tee blocks will be added to separate the red and white tees. There was a question from the floor on how this will impact our play for the remainder of the season. Sue responded that temporary tees will be provided.
2. The minutes for the Spring Meeting were approved. Motion by Patty McDonald and seconded by Patti Hunt.
3. Cathy Morin reported we will have a carryover of approximately $150.00. We have 38 members.
4. Games Captain Report – Sandy Young
Our membership numbers have been declining.
The participation rate averages around 78%.
Sandy introduced Melissa Allison our new member. Bridget will be Melissa’s buddy.
We will continue with the hybrid model for 2026 membership fees. The fee will remain at $30. Any woman who is a member of Dalewood and not a DWS member can participate in our OFD and CFD. The fee will be $15 for each event.
The policy for inclement weather was announced. If the club is open we will play.
The tentative 2026 Calendar is available and will be posted on the blog.
It was announced the Eclectic tournament will return. This will be played on consecutive Tuesdays and members not able to play on Tuesday will be able to participate on consecutive Saturdays. The Mary Buckley will continue to be part of the Club Championship weekend.
There was a comment from floor on whether we could have a different game since some play on Championship Day. It was noted members participating in the Club Championship are not able to participate in the Mary Buckley.
Sandy thanked the convenors Lynn Attley, Sandi MacDonald, Yvonne Shannon, Jeanne Beaith and Cathy Morin/Patti Hunt.
Lynn Attley has agreed to stay on as our Tuesday convenor.
The group thanked Sandy for work as Games Captain.
5. Tuesday League Play – Lynn Attley
Lynn commented we did not have any rainouts for our Tuesday league play.
Pace of play was an issue. It was identified that the green fee players were contributing to the backlog. In response to this Lynn moved the tee times earlier. Lynne asked if the group would agree to a 12:30 start which would close off the open tee times between the men’s group and our league. To be discussed at Spring meeting. There was a comment this would likely mean members would not stay for dinner.
A member commented we should all watch the group ahead to judge our pace of play.
Sue and Sandi will talk to Kevin and come up with potential solutions to address slow play.
Approximately 21 play in the afternoon and early evening. Lynn sets up threesomes to accommodate players who missed the sign up timeline. This also helps us retain our tee times.
A member asked for clarification on member and guest listings on the tee sheet. If the tee time lists member on the tee sheet can you request the Pro Shop add you to the group? Is there an open spot if guest is listed on the tee sheet?
6. Handicap,Match Play and Solheim Report - Sandi MacDonald
Match Play and Handicap
Using three tees for Match play was very successful and is here to stay. Players are encouraged to double check strokes given per hole and to record gross score hole by hole for an accurate review of the match.
It is recognized not all understand Match Play. Please have a practice round if you are not familiar with Match Play.
Reminder to enter your scores to keep your HDCP current. Your score should be entered within 24 hours of play. You must post scores from Match Play. If you did not putt out record your estimated score. Guidelines will be provided in the Spring.
Adjusted score posting will be reviewed at the Spring meeting.
October 31st is the last day to enter scores.
Sandi asked for a volunteer to takeover the handicap role. Let Sandy know if you are interested.
Achievement Boards
There has been a decline in participation on the Achievement Boards. Currently the policy is a minimum of 5 players must be signed up in order to be eligible for year end prizes. New for next year you will be asked to sign up for the Achievement Boards at the Spring meeting and the charge will be $5. The payout is what has been collected for each tee group. We don’t want to discourage participation with the minimum 5 person rule. Your DWS assessment will still include Chip-Ins and Putting.
We are also looking at adjusting the parameters for each Tee Group. This will be announced at the Spring Meeting.
Solheim Cup
The event was well attended. Once again the Herons won.
Slow play was a factor this year. To address pace of play the format will be Partner Scramble on on the front 9 and Doubles Match Play on the back.
7. Social Convenor – Bridget Smith
Service level grew throughout the season. Compliments to the staff. Tipping was a matter of personal choice.
We are pleased with the improvement in the selection of wines and more variety in nonalcoholic beverages. New wine glasses and carafes were introduced.
Chef prepared a rotation of Weekly Specials. Bridget will meet with Chef Greg in the fall to discuss possible changes. The salad choices were popular.
Bridget sent an email survey to members ranking for feedback. Many members did not receive the survey. Sandy will provide the email listing to Bridget
A selection of sandwiches was available throughout the season.
The upstairs small dining area was used for events and was favourable
8. Devil’s Tournament and Blog
The Devil’s was well attended.
The group thanked Jeanne for maintaining the Blog.
The Christmas Dinner will be held on December 5th at 5:30/6:00pm.
9. Saturday Skins
Sandy will continue to organize Saturday Skins games.
10. Interclub and City and District – Tracey Bodashefsky
Interclub
The challenge is very few participants from other clubs have a Golf Canada Handicap. Next year we will participate with different clubs. The format will be weekend play at Pinecrest and Lindsay. Peterborough, Kawartha and Wildfire might participate.
Tracey asked if there was interest in having a reciprocal with Warkworth. The group is interested.
Tracey thanked Sandi MacDonald for her assistance with organizing Interclub games.
