I will take this spot to tell you about a newsletter I get from Jon Sherman, who happens to be the mental, strategic golf coach for MacKenzie Hughes. His newsletter is called "Practical Golf."

Today's idea on strategy is: Double (triple) bogey avoidance is more important than getting birdies, if you are trying to lower your scores. 

As the chart shows, the difference between 1.1 and 6.1 doubles is far greater than the difference between 1.9 and .1 birdies. 

He writes "Use this as your North Star when you get into certain situations on the course. It could be when you are short-sided or in the rough. Or when you have a decision to make in a recovery situation in the trees. Most notably, it often shows up on your approach shots, not biting off more than you can chew trying to pin hunt aggressively."
