Dalewood Golf Club – Women’s Section

Spring Meeting Saturday May 6, 2023

 

1.    Sue Morrow, President, welcomed everyone and introduced the executive.

Vice President Laura McCracken Ebbrell, Secretary Treasurer Cathy Morin, Games Sandy Young, Sandi MacDonald-Wangen Handicap & Match Play Convenor


         Sue thanked Darryl Yorke, Superintendent, for his work to improve the          course. 

           Sue introduced Kevin Gunter, Director of Golf Operations. Kevin         

           was the Head Pro at Baxter Creek Golf Club.

           Kevin welcomed everyone and indicated he has an open door    

           policy. Brad Pemberton is our Head Teaching Pro.

           Question from the floor regarding renewal of the Golf Canada    

           membership. Kevin advised us to contact the Pro Shop if your      

            membership has not been renewed.

           Sue thanked Jen Robinson and staff for our Brunch.

 

           Sue called for a motion to accept the minutes of the Fall 2022 General   

           meeting minutes.  Susan Ross-Foster moved for acceptance, seconded                       by Anne Parks. The motion was carried.

 

2.    Introduction of new members. 

Laura welcomed Anne Abbott, Dianne Beatty, Heather Ogden and Sharon Brubacher. They have been paired with mentors for the season. 

  

3.    Treasurer’s Report

The carry over from 2022 is $216.     

         This year the membership fee is $25. The membership will include the   

          entry fee for Opening and Closing Field Day and Putting Match Play. 

 

4.      Games Captain Report 

  Sandy presented the 2023 calendar of events. This will be     

  emailed to the group.       

  Sandy encouraged everyone to sign up for the events.

           Saturday Skins Game - this season will be a cross over alternating with

            weekly times 7:00/7:30/8:30. Sign up deadline is Sunday.

 

5.     Handicap & Match Play

      Sandi commented on Golf Canada website for entering scores. She     encouraged everyone to do this regularly.

            Sandi encouraged everyone to sign up for match play prior to    

            Opening Field Day. Play needs to start early since extensions are a                            challenge to manage for the group.

            Sign the Match Play card and leave in the box provided in the lounge.

           

           Ringer board. There are 3 separate tees – Red, Red/Green and Green.    

           There must be a minimum of 5 participants on the 18 hole ringer board  

           per tee category to be eligible for year end prizes. There were numerous    

           questions from the floor. It was agreed there will be a discussion at the fall meeting.

           Solheim Cup is open to any women who are members of Dalewood.       

           Please advise Sandi if you are not playing this year. 

           

6.     Lynn Attley has graciously agreed to continue organizing our Tuesday game. Lynn will send out the on-line sign up on Sunday with Thursday noon deadline for sign up. Lynn will make up the groups and forward to the Pro Shop. Call the Pro Shop for cancellations or late sign up. Members need to check Chronogolf to confirm tee times. 

       

          Matches can be played on Tuesdays. Indicate this on the sign up sheet.

 

7.    Jeanne Beaith reviewed the Devil's Tournament to be held Aug 15. The cost is $5.     

Blog – Jeanne is happy to help if you have trouble accessing the blog. Please send Jeanne events, photos or great shots for posting. There is a wealth of information housed on the blog under the tabs. 

           

8.    New Business

          Tracey Bodashefsky presented an idea for Interclub competition. The plan i  

          is to start with 3 to 5 clubs. The format would be a 2 women better ball. D 

          DWS members would sign up to participate.

          

          Ontario Senior Games will be hosted at Dalewood on July 7thThe   

          membership is encouraged to participate.  

          

          Question from the floor regarding Monday women’s golf. The league is full             

          and runs for 10 weeks.

        

          Sue presented a potential new event called the Pro Challenge.     

          Details to follow. Basic idea is a group of 3 would play with the Pro        

          and the lowest score wins the Pro Challenge Cup. 

 

9.    Adjournment

Laura moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Sandi and the motion carried.
