By the way, several people had left before the bills had come out of the kitchen, so we decided to add 15% automatically to all the meals for the gratuity. The staff didn't want to interrupt the prizes, so that's why there was a delay in delivering the bills.

5th Annual Devil's Tournament
The weather was wonderful for the Devil's Tournament - some said it was a little too hot - but it didn't rain on a Tuesday! The meals were terrific, prepared by chef Jen. The course was in great shape. And the company couldn't have been better! Here are some of the photos from the post round drinks on the balcony. The winners and full results will be in a later posting.

40th Anniversary
It was great to see so many members celebrating Dalewood's 40th Anniversary last Saturday with golf in the afternoon and a nice barbecue and corn roast out on the first tee. It was really fun to see so many Juniors playing in the tournament and enjoying the dinner as well - of course, they had to be called off the putting green when it was time to eat. Many thanks to Jamie, Dave, Jen and staff for putting on a wonderful day.
The entertainment was terrific - "tall girl in the back shop" aka Caroline and Andy Earle, of course!
Sitting with the Thorpes, it was really nice to see the O'Neills - Art was our first Club President, and Ruth was secretary for the Women's Section for years. The big evergreen tree behind the first tee
has special meaning now.
Our Greens Superintendent Tyler Ruest and his wife Wendy were there.
And lots of members of our women's section were enjoying the evening:

District Championship and Devil's Tournament
Our Peterborough District Championship will be held this year on August 25th at Cedarhurst Golf Club, near Beaverton (Lake Simcoe area). The cost is $85, which includes golf, lunch, and gift card prizes. The closing date is August 11. Information and forms are on the bulletin board. Husbands and significant others may play in this tournament as well. You may leave your entry in the pro shop for George Moffat, who is the convenor. Sandi and Claudia are going, so perhaps some car pooling could happen.
~~~~~
Our annual Devil's Tournament is taking place on Tuesday, Aug 26, starting with a 1 pm shotgun. As usual, partners will be randomly drawn from 2 handicap flights and you will play 6 holes of better ball, 6 of scramble, and 6 of Chapman alternate shot. The cost is $10 and prizes will be given to the top 4 teams. Dinner selections will be made ahead of time.
Club Championship Weekend
Although the forecast was not good, we managed to get both days in under sunny skies.
Everyone started out hopeful, a little nervous, and in good spirits!
It appears that everyone finished in good spirits as well. (Pun intended)
Saturday's play was followed by "Apps on the Balcony". Looks like good food and great company:
| Stay tuned for more Club Championship photos and results. |
FUNDRAISER FOR GRACIE BOWEN
An appeal to help someone in our
community with relatives in our Dalewood membership –
Gracie Bowen is a nine year old Grafton girl who is fighting
Osterosarcoma (bone cancer). Active in
hockey and soccer, she is a fighter but with something this momentous, she and
her family will need all the help they can get.
She has recently come through a major operation at SickKids where her
knee was removed and replaced with her ankle and foot so she may be fitted for
a prosthesis.
For those who wish to help this little girl and her family through this
difficult time, you may make a donation directly to a fund in her name – please
ask for details at the Pro Shop.
Also, the Women’s executive thought we could put together a golf basket
and an entertainment basket that could be raffled off or auctioned at the golf
tournament being organised for her cause on August 10. If you wish to participate, there will be a
basket left in the locker room to collect your donations to fill the baskets.
We know we can put together something spectacular so let’s give her our
support – every little bit counts.
The Robins
Thanks to Yvonne for the pictures from Tuesday afternoon. It appears that mother robin will be very busy feeding these two mouths! We're happy they've survived so far!!
2 hatched - 1 to go
We don't know if it's the same robin, but she clearly likes that water cooler on 3 tee as a nesting spot. She flies away every time anyone comes near, which on busy days would be every 10 minutes or so. Luckily she was able to keep them warm enough to hatch. Now she just has to worry about predators like coyotes or cats! Maybe Martha and Sandi can set up an overnight vigil to help her out? ;-)
Remarkable how many more feathers are there on Friday (right) compared to Thursday (left). Thanks to Laura Ebbrell and Elliot vanderMeulen for the two pictures.
