Opening Field Day turned out to be one of the hottest days we have had this year. The rain forecast for mid-afternoon held off until during our dinner, which was another great meal prepared by Chef Jen.

Birdies were plentiful - Barb captured this one on the first hole bridge.

Dale and Diane made sure everyone had their tickets for the draws.

While the rest of us enjoyed our after-golf rehydration!

Red-White Competitive League Update

We had our first groups playing today, although it was from the red tees. Here's what happened: we had 8 players in two groups/teams - each team had to count 2 low net scores minus 1 putts. We put in $2 each, so the winning team players won a total of $4!! Each week there will be a different team game and most often we will play the red/white combo.

If this interests you, email Janet Hull at janet.m.hull@sympatico.ca. Janet will send out an email each week asking if you are playing and then make up the teams and game.

Some Clarification about the Achievement Board from the Games Committee:

This year the Games Committee decided to try a new way of recording your Achievements (that is: Ringers, Birdies, Pars, Bogeys, and Chip-ins).

Instead of you personally putting your numbers on the board and leaving the card, you are now to fill out a piece of paper from the box on the shelf with your name and the date on it. Put the paper in the appropriate box and our Games Captain Barb will fill out the board. (You should not be writing anything on the board.) Please double check your slip before submitting to save our captain having to contact you.

You may choose only one game of the week from Sunday to Saturday to use for your achievements. For example, if you have a par on hole #1 and bogey on #9 on Tuesday, but have a chip-in for par on #15 on Thursday, you must decide which scorecard you want to use. You must pick one day for your achievements. If you play in a match or in the Club Championship, you may use those cards in addition to one other game during the week.

Most people keep their scores for the week on one card and pick one game of the week to use for the board.

We were asked what a ringer score is:  it is the best score you make on each hole for the season.

Any questions, please see Barb Pemberton - Games Captain.

A New Golf Ontario Tournament

A Provincial Women's Member-Guest

Golf Ontario is introducing two new tournaments this year - both a Women's and Men's Member-Guest. The women's tournament will held at Ladies Golf Club of Toronto on Monday, Aug 27. The cost which includes golf, cart, and dinner will be $180 per person. The format is a better ball, with gross and net winners recognized.

The Guest must have a handicap either through being a member at a club or have a Public Players handicap through Golf Ontario. Each club will be allowed to send one team, up to a total of 36 teams.

Dalewood has a Guest Day coming up on June 5. Traditionally, we have used this day to introduce our friends to our great Dalewood facility and camaraderie in a kind of low key manner on a Tuesday. The guest fee for 18 holes that day will be $25 - a steal! It will run as usual, but we will also use June 5 as a qualifier for the GAO Member-Guest, if anyone wants to attend the provincial tournament at Ladies Club.

So, on June 5 bring a friend to play golf for a guest fee of $25.

If you want to try to qualify for the provincial Member-Guest, sign the sheet Barb will have posted on Tuesday. (Remember, your guest must have a handicap to qualify for the provincial Member-Guest.)

Don't forget to sign up for Team Play by Saturday, May 12. We still have room for a few more players. And we still need a couple of captains, so please consider taking your turn. I know we have good cheerleaders out there!
The Team Play draft is next Tuesday after dinner. You will only have input on your team's name if you're there!!

We had a great turnout for our Spring Meeting. It was good to renew friendships and meet new members.  President Tracey Bodashefsky welcomed us back and introduced the 2018 Executive. It was also a time to remember the friends and members we lost last year: Sue Porter-Clayton, Eleni Ponting, and Nan Sharpe.

Brad welcomed us from the pro shop and told us about the new assistant, Craig Pitt. They are there to help with all your golfing needs from equipment to lessons.

There was a lot of good information shared and some changes taking place as well. Anne Parks, the Tuesday convenor, noted the we will now have three handicap groups on Tuesday, instead of 2, for fair prize distribution. She also noted that we may now use our "maximum score" (Equitable Stroke Control) when putting in your scores for Tuesday play. Now, there will no longer be a difference in your Team Play score, your "toonie" score, and the score that goes in the computer for your handicap. That should help alleviate some confusion. If a player decides to pick up on a hole (because she will have reached her max score) she can still count 2 putts. If you want to play on Tuesday, sign up on the bulletin board by the Saturday before. Once the draw is made, any changes need to be done through the pro shop.

Games Captain, Barb Pemberton, showed everyone the new method for putting your "achievements" in. Starting this week, there will be a slip of paper to fill out the achievement (ringer, birdie, par, bogey, chip-in) with your name, handicap, and the date played. Barb will then put the achievements on the board - the player no longer does that herself. Also, we were reminded that only one game a week (from Sunday to Saturday) may be used for your achievements. Other competitions, such as matches, Greta Phillips, and Club Championship, may be used as well and should be noted on the paper. (If a match is used, for example, you may actually have two slips of paper from the same week.)

The "theme" for our Opening Field Day is "Dots are Your Friend", so show up "dotty" and the theme for the Member - Guest this year is "Beatlemania".

All the important dates for the season are listed on the right side of the Blog. Have a great summer and keep it on the short grass!

Monday, 23 April 2018

FINALLY, it's getting warm! These pictures and the one above were taken on Monday, April 23. Great to see lines on on the greens - the staff has been cutting. Everything is starting to green up!

The new tee at #8 wintered well and appears to be growing.
A temporary tee will be in use there for a while.
