Thank you from Janet

Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers. I miss you all and Dalewood Golf Club so much. 😜

Hopefully I will be able to get back to the farm and Dalewood next season.

On a positive note, I am getting excellent treatment at a fantastic cancer centre in California called City of Hope.

I am on a clinical trial oral medication but need to go to the hospital every 3 weeks.

The drug is not available in Canada so I have no choice but to remain in the USA for now.

Weather is getting a little warm here but we still get out and golf.

Take care. Please say hi to everyone for me. Miss you all.

Janet

A new member profile and a fundraiser

Although not a new member to Dalewood, Heather Ogden has joined the Women's Section this year. Here are her answers to the "new member questions":

Where were you born?  In Peterborough Hospital, and spent most of my life in the Roseneath area.

Where do you live now?  Cobourg

How long have you been golfing?  This is my sixth year of golf.

Previous clubs you belonged to?  I haven't been a member of any clubs prior to Dalewood.

Do you have any golfing goals this year?  My golfing goal is to bogey #'s 1, 9, and 14 in the same game.

Favourite post round drink?  I am not much of a drinker but a sparkling water and on occasion a rum and coke in a large glass would be my post round drink of choice.

Significant other, kids, grandkids, pets?  My husband Mark and I just had our first grandchild - Kannon Sakac on May 21. We have three girls: Kelsey, Julie, and Lauren. We have a dog Charlie, who is always happy to greet us when we get home from golf.

Other sports, hobbies, interests?  Mark and I love to golf. I love to walk, hike, ride my bike and ski, both downhill and cross-country. On the more calm side, I like to read, journal, and enjoy listening to health and wellness podcasts. I teach an exercise class online twice weekly.

Anne Abbott would like us to be aware of a fundraiser for Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre. It is a garden tour in Cobourg on June 25. Ticket information is available on the link below:

Opening Meeting and Brunch

2023 got off to a great start with our Opening Meeting and Brunch on Saturday May 6. With most of our members in attendance, the Golf Committee, under the leadership of Su Morrow, introduced our new Director of Golf and Operations Kevin Gunter. Kevin is a familiar face for those who have been around awhile!

The schedule of activities was presented. Most are shown under calendar on the left side of the blog. (A description of each event is given at the top of blog in the tab "Games and Events".) The sign-up procedures for Tuesday golf and Saturday Skins were outlined by Lynn and Sandy.

Sandi described Match Play and changes to our Achievement board. She will help new members get a handicap established.

New and returning members were introduced by Laura and they include Anne Abbott, Dianne Beatty, Sharon Brubacher, and Heather Ogden. (Another new member has joined since Saturday - Valerie Foster.)

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT BOARD 2023

For 2023, thanks to input and interest in the new forward tees, the golf committee has come up with the following...

COMPETITIONS will be from the Red Tees.

RINGERS, BIRDIES, etc. may be recorded once a week.

In addition, RINGERS, BIRDIES, etc. earned during a competition may be recorded in that week.

NEW FOR 2023...

1.  CHIP-INS: OPEN to all...NO HDCP’s involved.

2.  RINGER BOARDS will be a choice of TEES, not by HDCP:

             RED or RED/GREEN or GREEN

Choose which TEE Block you wish to use for your Ringers.

Handicaps are subtracted from final Ringer scores at the end of the season. Players must have all 18 scores filled in by two weeks before closing to be eligible for a prize.

3.  BIRDIE/PAR BOARDS:

Red and Red/Green players may chart Birdies.

Green players may chart Birdies and Pars on Par 4’s and Par 5's.

This will be a trial year, to be revisited at the end of the season.

Any questions, please ask us!
