FUNDRAISER FOR GRACIE BOWEN

An appeal to help someone in our community with relatives in our Dalewood membership –

Gracie Bowen is a nine year old Grafton girl who is fighting Osterosarcoma (bone cancer).  Active in hockey and soccer, she is a fighter but with something this momentous, she and her family will need all the help they can get.  She has recently come through a major operation at SickKids where her knee was removed and replaced with her ankle and foot so she may be fitted for a prosthesis.

For those who wish to help this little girl and her family through this difficult time, you may make a donation directly to a fund in her name – please ask for details at the Pro Shop.

Also, the Women’s executive thought we could put together a golf basket and an entertainment basket that could be raffled off or auctioned at the golf tournament being organised for her cause on August 10.  If you wish to participate, there will be a basket left in the locker room to collect your donations to fill the baskets.

We know we can put together something spectacular so let’s give her our support – every little bit counts.

The Robins

Thanks to Yvonne for the pictures from Tuesday afternoon.  It appears that mother robin will be very busy feeding these two mouths!  We're happy they've survived so far!!

There is still time to sign up for Club Championship.  Speak to Dave, in the pro shop, if you neglected to put your name on the list.

2 hatched - 1 to go

We don't know if it's the same robin, but she clearly likes that water cooler on 3 tee as a nesting spot.  She flies away every time anyone comes near, which on busy days would be every 10 minutes or so.  Luckily she was able to keep them warm enough to hatch.  Now she just has to worry about predators like coyotes or cats!  Maybe Martha and Sandi can set up an overnight vigil to help her out?   ;-)

Remarkable how many more feathers are there on Friday (right) compared to Thursday (left).  Thanks to Laura Ebbrell and Elliot vanderMeulen for the two pictures.

Sun, finally, and Club C

We finally got a beautiful Tuesday afternoon for golf and these women certainly appreciated it!  Ariane and Annabel were seen plotting their Greta Philips strategy and we're not sure what the others were doing - just having a normally good time on Tuesday afternoon!!

Club championship is on next weekend, July 26, 27 (with the Skills Challenge on Friday night).  All women are welcome to participate.  There are age divisions, and flights for handicaps.  You will play with similar handicaps.  The $35 fee includes Skills Night and Club Championship prizes, as well as dinner on Sunday.
Linda sent out an invitation to "apps on the balcony" following play on Saturday for a cost of $10.  Even those not playing on the weekend are welcome to come out.  Please sign up by this Saturday (July 19).

Tree dedication

On Wednesday, July 9, a few of Mary Buckley's friends and family gathered to celebrate the planting of the oak on #18. Fortunately her daughter MJ and her husband Jim were able to play with Ene and Noel Milner in the morning and saw the tree close up.  Good memories of Mary were exchanged.  It was great to see some former members, as well.

Martha announced the winner of the Mary Buckley Eclectic Trophy and MJ McLaren helped present the award to Laura Ebbrell.  MJ was a back-to-back winner of this trophy a few years ago.

Women's Member Guest - July 6

Hi Everyone,

Super turn out!  Fantastic weather!  Great Mardi Gras costumes!  Classy decorations!  Fun people!  Awesome game!  Delicious N'awlins dinner!  What could be better than that?

Our Member Guest tournament held yesterday was outstanding to say the least!  Yvonne Shannon and her committee: Ariane Macdonald, Lynn Attley, Martha Killoran, Gail Richards and Shirley Harrison did us all proud.  A huge congrats to all!  Guests and members were really impressed with the whole day!

An extra special thanks to Jen and her staff for a fabulous meal service that included a flamboyant side table for bananas foster! Our pro shop Dave was his usual fun self!  Thanks to Jamie and Dave who helped ensure that everything went off without a hitch!!

Superb!  Well done!  Can't wait for next year!  Look forward to the pics on the blog.

Canada Day and floating balls

The weather finally cooperated for us on a Tuesday and we were able to complete the Mary Buckley Eclectic.  It only took 16 days!  Thanks for your patience, Martha.  Results will be posted in 16 days.  ;-)

I think the two women who brought their Canadian flags in on July 1, with 6 and 5 shots to spare may have an advantage in both the Tuesday low net game and the Eclectic.  Well done Annabel and Thelma!  A special thank you to Sandi who decorated our third tee with red and white flowers and the Canadian flags!!

The next competition on the calendar is the Greta Philips Better Ball.  Get a partner or sign up as a single.  You play your own ball and the better net score on each hole is used for the team score.  Play it on Sunday July 13, or Tuesday July 15.  July 15 will also be a Team Play day, so you'll have to keep three scorecards that day in your group.  We're getting good at that now!!

It appears that one of us (Sandi?) is playing the 8th hole with a floater.  Not really - the weeds are so thick in the pond that the ball actually was suspended on the weeds.  Too far to reach, but it makes a great picture (thanks Laura E.):
