Match Play Info from Tracey

Match Play Update:
It is wonderful to see so many participants in the match play games this year and thank you to all who have already played their first round of competition.  Due to such a plentiful playing field, the time frame to get games in, and the fact that playing time has been limited with the number of outside tournaments we have had in these last two weeks, the ‘play by' dates have been moved as follows:  Mickey Aryes Putting matches from June 20 to June 27, Huffman 9-hole Match Play from June 20 to June 27, and the Doris Mitchell Better Ball Match Play from June 27 to July 4th.

Reminders:
- Players may NOT practise on the putting green prior to a putting match on that day.
- Sign, date and attest all cards after matches and hand them in to the pro shop
- Please contact Tracey at 905-885-0040 or traceyperkin@live.ca with questions or for extensions.
- Check out the Pages section in our blog ‘Match Play Rules, Etiquette, and Hints’ for some great info.

Congratulations to those who have advanced so far and best of luck to all.

Upcoming Events

On this coming Tuesday, June 9, there is a tournament for Northumberland Food Bank, so women's golf will be on Wednesday, June 10. Tracey is looking for volunteers to spot on a hole if you're not playing in the tournament.

The good news is we don't even need Wednesday as a make up day for a Team Play rain-out! Let's keep our fingers and toes crossed for continued good weather.  Team Play resumes on June 30.

Match Play draws will be posted this weekend (and are already on the blog under Pages), so find out when you play and get some possible dates to play your match. Don't leave it until the last minute! We had a great turnout for match play, but that means we have a short amount of time to get all the rounds in. There are only 2 weeks to get the first one done. Extensions (for emergency reasons) may be requested from Tracey Perkin (905-885-0040), but keep in mind you are making the next round shorter if you delay the current round.

The Mary Buckley Eclectic is two rounds of golf where you count the best score on each hole over  two different days. Round 1 may be played on either Sunday, June 14 or Tuesday, June 16 and round 2 may be played on either Sunday, June 21 or Tuesday, June 23

The Member/Guest is Sunday, June 28. The poster and sign-up sheet are on the board downstairs.

Opening Field Day

It was a little cold - okay, it was very cold, but it didn't rain on us. We had a great time at our Opening, enjoyed the camaraderie, and probably made the occasional good shot! Thanks to all who made it possible.

These folks have have found the warmest spot at the course in the sun and out of the wind - we're ready to go!!

The big winners of the day were these two lucky ladies who won the 50/50 and the jewelry draw. Congrats to Sharon and Thelma, and thanks to Ene for the donation.

Let the Games Begin!!

May 19 is our first night of Team Play. The low 5 NET scores will count for each team against the low 5 NET scores from one other team. Here's how the points shake out - 10 points for a win, 5 for  tie, 0 for a loss. However, every player counts for her team up to a maximum of 8 points. So your team could get 18 points.

GAO Training Clinics

Do you need a refresher course on grip, stance, alignment or posture fundamentals? How's your short game and bunker play this spring? Do you need some putting help? What's your mental state on the course? Once again, we are offering the GAO Training Program Clinics Level 1 and 2 at Dalewood. Cuyler is our instructor (and it may be her last one!) The feedback on these clinics is always extremely positive - well worth the time and money! Repeat customers are proof of that.

In addition to the above, Level 2 (hcp 20-29) also concentrates on trouble shots (downhill, sidehill, punch shots etc.) and course management. The cost for the two day clinic is $150 and the dates are May 25, 26. The date for registration is May 17.

As well as the above skills, Level 1 (hcp 30+) concentrates on Personal Par, pace of play, rules, and course management. The one day clinic costs $75 and it runs on June 2. The registration date is May 24.

The forms are on the bulletin board in the lower hall. You can leave the registration in the pro shop (attention Jeanne Beaith) and chit the cost if you wish. Manuals for each clinic have to be ordered, so the registration dates are firm.

Both Tuesdays will finish in time for you to still play 9 holes with the women. Lunch and refreshments are included in the cost, which is subsidized by the GAO.

Welcome Reception and Meeting

The Women's Section had their first meeting of the year on Saturday, May 2. The executive was pleased with the turnout of returning and new members. The appetizers were delicious, thanks to Jen's capable effort. Jamie Carter outlined the work that had been done in the club house. Many thanks to the members of the men's section for all their hard work - it would not have been done without them. We said goodbye to Cuyler Hedley-Marion, who is leaving us for her new position working with juniors and the Golf in Schools program with the GAO. (However, she will still instruct our Level 1 and 2 clinics this year.)

Lynn Attley presented another terrific slide show with a musical theme. Great job, Lynn!

President Linda welcomed us back and relayed some of the results of the survey from the fall and emphasized the importance of fun and camaraderie in our events. The schedule for the season was outlined and copies are in the locker room, if you need one. Patty described the achievement boards and encouraged all to sign up for Opening Field Day on May 23.

The rules for posting scores for handicap purposes were presented by Tracey Perkin. For new members, make sure you ask the pro shop to put your name in the computer, so you can start entering your scores. The match play boards are now posted on the bulletin board. The deadline for these competitions is June 1.

The Team Play poster is on the bulletin board. You may sign up until May 9. Draft night is May 12 at 7:30. All handicap levels are welcome. Please consider volunteering to be a captain. It's not a hard job!

Tuesday "twoonie" play starts May 5.

Our meeting was followed by the fashion show. Thanks to the willing models, Divine Dave for strutting their stuff , and the clothing companies for supplying their stuff.
