GAO Training Clinics

Do you need a refresher course on grip, stance, alignment or posture fundamentals? How's your short game and bunker play this spring? Do you need some putting help? What's your mental state on the course? Once again, we are offering the GAO Training Program Clinics Level 1 and 2 at Dalewood. Cuyler is our instructor (and it may be her last one!) The feedback on these clinics is always extremely positive - well worth the time and money! Repeat customers are proof of that.

In addition to the above, Level 2 (hcp 20-29) also concentrates on trouble shots (downhill, sidehill, punch shots etc.) and course management. The cost for the two day clinic is $150 and the dates are May 25, 26. The date for registration is May 17.

As well as the above skills, Level 1 (hcp 30+) concentrates on Personal Par, pace of play, rules, and course management. The one day clinic costs $75 and it runs on June 2. The registration date is May 24.

The forms are on the bulletin board in the lower hall. You can leave the registration in the pro shop (attention Jeanne Beaith) and chit the cost if you wish. Manuals for each clinic have to be ordered, so the registration dates are firm.

Both Tuesdays will finish in time for you to still play 9 holes with the women. Lunch and refreshments are included in the cost, which is subsidized by the GAO.

Welcome Reception and Meeting

The Women's Section had their first meeting of the year on Saturday, May 2. The executive was pleased with the turnout of returning and new members. The appetizers were delicious, thanks to Jen's capable effort. Jamie Carter outlined the work that had been done in the club house. Many thanks to the members of the men's section for all their hard work - it would not have been done without them. We said goodbye to Cuyler Hedley-Marion, who is leaving us for her new position working with juniors and the Golf in Schools program with the GAO. (However, she will still instruct our Level 1 and 2 clinics this year.)

Lynn Attley presented another terrific slide show with a musical theme. Great job, Lynn!

President Linda welcomed us back and relayed some of the results of the survey from the fall and emphasized the importance of fun and camaraderie in our events. The schedule for the season was outlined and copies are in the locker room, if you need one. Patty described the achievement boards and encouraged all to sign up for Opening Field Day on May 23.

The rules for posting scores for handicap purposes were presented by Tracey Perkin. For new members, make sure you ask the pro shop to put your name in the computer, so you can start entering your scores. The match play boards are now posted on the bulletin board. The deadline for these competitions is June 1.

The Team Play poster is on the bulletin board. You may sign up until May 9. Draft night is May 12 at 7:30. All handicap levels are welcome. Please consider volunteering to be a captain. It's not a hard job!

Tuesday "twoonie" play starts May 5.

Our meeting was followed by the fashion show. Thanks to the willing models, Divine Dave for strutting their stuff , and the clothing companies for supplying their stuff.

Not so fast!!

Although the weather on the weekend was terrific and made us all want to be out golfing, Mother Nature had other things in mind. The rain on Sunday night and all day Monday caused the opening of the club to be postponed. In case you thought they were being too cautious, Jamie sent me this picture from Monday afternoon. The water had actually started receding by the time this shot was taken. The good news is that no damage was done to the cart paths during the flooding and opening was to go ahead on Wednesday, for those brave enough to play in 6 degree weather. The even better news is that it didn't rain on TUESDAY!!  Maybe that's an omen for rain free golf this year on OUR day.

Team Play:
The women's section is going to continue with Team Play again this season. There will be 9 dates (including 3 playoff rounds) throughout the summer. We have scheduled them to avoid any trophy play, so that the issue of keeping three cards hopefully does not arise (unless we run into rain problems again). You will still need to keep two cards in the group for 9 holes - one for the pro shop and one for the "toonie game". An explanation of score keeping will be given at draft night and posted on the Team Play board. Sign up by May 9 and draft night is May 12. The cost will be $20 again this year.

That time of year again!

President’s Message

This has been the year of the winter that just wouldn’t go away!  Welcome back to those of you who were fortunate enough to escape the winter perils and congratulations to those of you who persevered our Canadian weather!  As another new golf season draws near, I know our women golfers are anxious to get back to the game and reunite with good friends.
This year promises to be another year of great fun and fellowship, not to mention some fabulous days on our beautiful Dalewood course.  Jamie and staff are busy ensuring that the club is picture perfect for our return.  I think you’ll be in for a surprise when you come to the club!  Your 2015 executive are also hard at work preparing for the new golf season.  Your feedback from the survey and the questionnaire sent out last fall will continue to offer us guidance over the course of the season.  Team Play is back by popular demand and social events will continue to keep everyone busy off the course as well.  Fresh ideas and new games are always welcome to keep our Tuesday league and tournaments vibrant.  Once again, I have made it my personal mandate to involve as many new faces as possible in volunteer roles.  No need to take on an executive position or volunteer for the entire season.  Helping out for a day, an event or even for a few minutes will be really, really appreciated!  After all, this is your club so the greater the involvement, the stronger the women’s section will be.
The Spring General Meeting will be held the afternoon of Saturday May 2nd. This year registration and the President’s Reception will begin at 1:00 PM.  By having the President’s Reception before the meeting and fashion show you will have more time to socialize and trade winter stories with your golfing friends.  You will also have time to do some shopping at the vendor displays before the meeting as well.  Soon you will receive a phone call from one of the executive giving you details, but for now put May 2nd on your calendar.
I wish all of you a great golf season full of fun and many personal achievements!  Should you need anything or have suggestions, please talk to me or another executive member. Our 2015 Dalewood Women’s Golf Schedule will be posted on the blog so stay tuned…
Warmest regards,
Linda Isaac
