Welcome to the final edition of our 2021DC (During COVID) golf tales!
I am sure everyone is enjoying their golf and where the frig did July go? 😩

I hope you have all stopped at our new Birdie bench on 17 and raised a “shot of” to Diane. Both benches are nice additions to our course.

July 6 produced a breath holder for Susan with this beautiful shot.

Can’t get much closer. Great shot Susan. 🏌️‍♀️

Patty and Barb partnered up for the Bulger and the best part of their day was looking like a team. No more shall be said.

Can you say rare sighting?? You will understand what I mean when I tell you there was a spotting of Susan RF on the driving range on July 28! I spent the rest of my round looking for the pig in the sky 🤷‍♀️

Here’s a shout out to all our B.C. connections……
The beaming face of Bridget in Vancouver watching her only daughter walk down the aisle.
Betty getting to hug her son Adam, and her precious grandson from Kelowna on their recent visit.
Lynn boarding a plane to Vancouver to welcome their 3rd grandchild.
All memory making events in the lives of our golf friends. ♥️

Hope the balance of the golf season brings you birdies, low scores and lots of laughter and special moments.
Signing out……

Barb

ELENI PONTING BETTER BALL TOURNAMENT

TUESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2021

The ever-popular Eleni Ponting Better Ball tournament will be held August 3, 2021. It is, as you may remember, a ‘better ball’ format.

"Better ball" is a name for a golf competition format in which two golfers play as a team, but each plays her own ball throughout. On each hole, the two golfers on a team compare scores. The lower of the two NET scores - the better ball - counts as the team's score.

As with any of our matches/tournaments, you need to have your most recent handicap and figure out your strokes/hole. You should all know by now how to figure out your ‘dots’/hole based on your current handicap. Filling your cards out the night before is a good idea to relieve any pre-game angst.

The scorecard for this event is a team card and that is what should be handed in.

The cost is $2.00/person.

Money and cards will be handled as they were for the Bulger.

Sign up will be via the Tuesday on-line Google document, modified to handle the better ball match. You must have a partner to sign up.

Should you not wish to participate, just play your usual Tuesday game.

...REALLY????..THIS IS GOLF??!!

Midsummer Newsletter

Women’s Section Midsummer Newsletter

We are slowly moving towards an almost ‘normal’ Dalewood. The patio is open to more people, there is indoor dining, and we can use our locker room. Hopefully, those who have lockers, remember their combinations!

Last week we played the Bulger, through rain and sun. Congratulations to Yvonne and Sandy Young for their great play. Thank you, Yvonne, for organizing the tournament and trying to decipher people’s score cards!

This weekend is Dalewood’s Club Championship. It is an enjoyable and rewarding weekend and it’s great to see the number of ladies participating. Please consider playing. Similar handicaps play together. The sign-up sheet is on the eastside of the Women’s Tournament Board in the lower hall. Questions? Please contact Jeanne Beaith at jbeaith@sympatico.ca

Your Golf committee is busy reviewing the calendar for the remainder of 2021 and updating it. You will soon receive an updated version.

Included with this newsletter is an outline of the DWS Golf Committee. The Committee is a fun and rewarding opportunity to be involved in our Women’s Section. Some of the committee members have fulfilled their two-year commitment and would very much like to pass on their role to another memberof the women’s section. The following positions are opening for 2022: Vice- president, President, and Games Captain. During the last two years, the Committee has been refining the job description for each position and its time requirement. This will help to ease into the role for those interested. If you are interested, curious or have questions, please contact Tracey Bodashefsky at 905- 373-6110 or traceyboda@gmail.com. She would love to chat about these fun and fulfilling positions.

There is a lot more golf to play! Enjoy!

Rules for the Bulger Alternate Shot

On Tuesday we are playing for the Bulger Two-Ball (Alternate Shot) Trophy. Don't forget to hand in your toonie ($4/team) before you play. Convenor Yvonne will have a copy of the rules with the scorecard, but here is a reminder:

Bulger Two-Ball Rules:

Each player drives from the tee and then hits her partner’s ball. Before the third shot, the team chooses the ball to continue with. Whoever owns the chosen ball will hit the third shot and then continue alternating shots until the ball is holed.

After completing 18 holes the players add their handicaps together and divide by 2.  This is deducted from their gross score. The handicaps will have been marked on the scorecards for you.

Put scorecards in the box on the patio (signed, dated and attested) when finished.
