We had a terrific turnout for our Christmas dinner,
even better than our luncheons. Good food and great company!
JUST A REMINDER OF OUR CHRISTMAS DINNER ON FRIDAY AT DALEWOOD (DRINKS AT 5:30, DINNER AT 6PM). WE HAVE 34 WOMEN COMING THIS YEAR.
IF, FOR SOME REASON YOU NEED TO CANCEL, PLEASE SPEAK TO JEN PERSONALLY. THOSE WITH DIETARY REQUESTS SHOULD SPEAK TO JEN DIRECTLY.
AND DON'T FORGET YOU CAN BRING YOUR "SOCKS FOR JORDAN" TO GIVE TO SANDI. ALL SOCKS DONATED HERE STAY IN THE AREA TO HELP THOSE IN NEED.
A cart disaster sent from Janet Hull:
"One of our members drove his cart into the pond on our 1st hole of the Cove Course. Supposedly he was mad at his shot.
The real story was he got his foot stuck between the brake and accelerator peddle. He went right in with the cart. Thanks goodness it was a lovely 89 degrees and he dried off by the time he got to 10. Ironically, one of the marshals said the guy is commodore of the Newport yacht club."
Once again Jordan is collecting new socks for those in need.
Speaking of the Christmas Dinner, if you haven't signed up please join us by clicking on the link below and adding your name by Dec 3.
Our Christmas Dinner will look a little different this year. It will be a sit-down 3-course plated meal served in the small dining room. It will start with soup or salad, followed by turkey and ham, stuffing, potatoes and vegetables. Dessert will be a choice of Jen's sticky pudding or pie. The cost is $20.95 + tax and gratuity.
The date we have chosen is Friday, December 10. This year we have several working people and some afternoon conflicts, so we are going to try a dinner at 6 pm, with drinks at 5:30.
We are going to sign up with the Google Doc method that we have used for most events this year. Lynn Attley will be sending this out in the next few days, so look for an email from Lynn. The choice of soup or salad and dessert will be made when you are at dinner. Those with dietary requests should still sign up and then contact Jen personally by Dec 3 to discuss your choices.
If you would like to invite friends or former members, please feel free to do so - we have room for 40 (5 tables of 8). You can sign them up when you sign yourself. Everyone must be double vaxxed. Please sign up by noon on December 3, so I can give a number to Jen.
Any questions contact me: jbeaith@sympatico.ca.
DON'T FORGET THAT WE MUST HAVE OUR CLUBS OUT OF CLUB STORAGE BY MONDAY, OCT 25.
AS WELL, OUR "ACTIVE SEASON" IN ONTARIO ENDS ON OCTOBER 31. SO BEGINNING NOVEMBER 1, SCORES MAY NOT BE PUT IN THE COMPUTER FOR HANDICAP PURPOSES. HECK, YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO KEEP SCORE!
BIRDIES STILL COUNT FOR JUICE, THOUGH.

Dalewood Women’s Section September Newsletter
Wow! Where did the summer go? July and August came and went, as Dalewood made great strides to allow us to use more of the facilities safely.
On Tuesday, we will have the Devil’s Tournament. It is important that you arrive before 12 noon to be part of the partner draw. There will also be a wine tasting at 11:30am.
September will be a busy month for the women’s section. On September 11, Sandi MacDonald-Wangen will be convening the Solheim Cup. She has already put up the sign-up sheet down in the corridor by the women’s locker room. This is always a fun event, and hopefully your name is already on the sheet. If you missed the sign-up, please contact Sandi at sandi.macw@gmail.com.
On Tuesday, September 28, at 6:00pm, we will have the Annual Fall Meeting, the first one in two years thanks to covid-19 restrictions. We are looking forward to getting your input on several key items for the 2022 season. There will be an online sign-up sheet and the agenda will be emailed to you on September 21. If you have a key topic you would like to raise at the meeting, please send us an email note in advance. Thanks.
This year, our Closing Field Day will be held on Saturday, October 2. Sign-up will be done online. Presentation of awards for the season will also take place at this time.
Now is the time to decide which member should be awarded the Nan Sharpe ‘Play Happy’ Award. The award was created in 2018 in honour of Nan Sharpe. Nan loved to have fun and encouraged others to enjoy the game of golf, no matter what. You will receive a survey shortly, asking you to choose a fellow golfer, regardless of how her game is going, smiles and remains pleasant, inspires, and supports both on the course and around the club house. Previous winners have been Sharon Klan (2018), Jane Gibbens (2019) and Dale Hodge (2020). They are not eligible to win again. The winner will be announced at the Fall Closing Field Day.
As we move into September, hopefully temperatures will become more comfortable, and the golf game even more enjoyable!
Ariane Macdonald, President
This is a couple of months late, but:
CONGRATULATIONS TO GERRY YORKE WHO HAD A HOLE-IN-ONE

Jen has arranged to have a rep from Peller Estates come for a wine tasting on our Devil's Tournament day, Tuesday Aug 31, at 11:30am, before golf. (It is the only time the rep is available.) So if you would like to come out early to try some Peller Estates, please do so at 11:30. We need to start the draw at 12 noon, so we can get out on the course by 1pm.
Two of our favourite tournaments are returning later this month and next month - the Devil's Tournament on Aug 31 and the Solheim Cup on Sept 11.
For the Devil's Tournament, we will meet upstairs in the hall at 12 noon on Aug 31 to do the draw, followed by a shotgun start at 1pm. Dinner choices will be out soon. We will use Google docs to sign up, make your dinner choices, and to indicate if you're riding. The cost this year will be $5.00 (half price!), which will be chitted.
The format: after a blind draw of a lower handicap paired with a higher handicap, we will play 6 holes each of better ball, scramble, and alternate shot (Chapman). We will have a dinner afterwards with prizes awarded.

September Solheim Cup
Interrupted by Covid in 2020, the Solheim Cup did not take place. With fewer restrictions, i.e. able to gather indoors, it is on this year. There have been many changes in membership in a year, so new teams need to be established. Teams remain the same year to year.
Who? What? When? How?
WHO? - Any woman member may join
WHAT? - A one day tournament consisting of 9 holes of Doubles Match Play, 9 holes of singles match play.
WHEN? - Always a Saturday in September. This year September 11th…tee times will be mid morning.
HOW? - A sign up sheet is posted on bulletin board near the Women’s Locker Room.
Past members have begun indicating availability for September 11.
If you are interested in joining, please sign up, or contact me at 289 251-0104 or sandi.macw@gmail.com.
We have the Gages Creek Blue Herons (team colour BLUE) and Dalewood Falcons (team colour GREEN). Teams are asked to wear their team colours for the competition.
The cost is $5 cash on the day. The winning team receives $10 each, and winners of the Solheim Trophy, plus bragging rights for a year! And, if you are interested, but cannot make the date this year, sign up anyway. Conversely, if this is not something you wish to continue, please remove your name from the list.Welcome to the final edition of our 2021DC (During COVID) golf tales!
I am sure everyone is enjoying their golf and where the frig did July go? 😩
I hope you have all stopped at our new Birdie bench on 17 and raised a “shot of” to Diane. Both benches are nice additions to our course.
